JOHNNIE GILMORE

www.johnniegilmore.com

Johnnie Gilmore is a brilliant young bass player and songwriter pushing the boundaries of the instrument's capabilities, both as a soloist and accompanist. His compositions and arrangements aspire to tell interesting stories, with a focus on melody, following in the footsteps of instrumentalists Victor Wooten, Jaco Pastorius, Tommy Emmanuel, Chet Atkins, and Jon Gomm. Even his most technically demanding songs can still be sung in the shower! His eclectic influences include James Jamerson, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Phish, Steely Dan, and James Taylor. Initiated on classical piano in elementary school, Johnnie picked up the electric bass at age 15 and was mastering it soon thereafter. Since then, Johnnie has studied with masters Jesse Williams, Bob Sinicrope, Noah Baerman, and Nilson Matta, and performs a wide array of genres including rock, jazz, funk, soul, songwriting, and even traditional Balkan music. Johnnie was the Musical Director for "Bat Boy: The Musical", has toured internationally - including performances in South Africa and at Hong Kong's Freespace Happening Festival - and was awarded the Gwen Livingston Pekora Prize for Excellence In Music Composition. Johnnie's solo debut album, "Salt of the Earth" was released in November 2018 on RMI Records.
