Get pumped. 12/15/09 - Jeff Buckley Manager Supports Pidgeon Former Jeff Buckley manager Jack Bookbinder has lent his support to Pete Pidgeon saying that he feels "big things are in store" for Pidgeon after discovering his talent at the 2008 Jeff Buckley Tribute Concert in Manhattan, a performance Jack described by saying, "Of all the performers that night at Arlene's Grocery, we were most touched by your performance of 'I Shall Be Released' and your incredible vocal command of the song... Amazing." Jack recalls he was "struck by Pete's jaw-dropping vocals and approach to artistry reminiscent of the Lower East Side's Cafe Sin-e-era scene." 10/11/09 - Fall Solo Tour Dates Announced! Pete Pidgeon will be touring through The South and The Midwest as a solo artist in support of his upcoming album In the Name of Megan Smith which is due out March 17th! Please come out and support! See you out there! 08/13/09 - New Album In the Name of Megan Smith! Thanks to the inspiration of a simple phone call by producer Kyle "Slick" Johnson this Spring, Pete Pidgeon will be releasing his first solo album In the Name of Megan Smith in 2010. Recorded in April and May, mixed in June and July and mastered in August, the project came together quickly and wonderfully. Mixed at one of Brooklyn's best studios, Excello, the album reflects an acoustic, relaxed and comfortable vibe. Pete produced the disc and played almost all the instruments on the album, including piano on the beautiful Soon To Be Sunday, bass, ukulele, mandolin, harmonium and of course guitar and vocals. Special appearances include Rachel Yamagata alum Collette Alexander on cello, Brooklyn native Adam Platt of Dance Fight on organ and piano, engineer Jon Hildenstein on melodica, and Brent Follis on drumset. Stay tuned for information on the release date and National Tour this fall! If you would like to book Pete for a show or CD Release Date in 2010, please email NowPowerProductions@gmail.com. For blog entries from Pete and photos of the recording sessions, please "become a fan" on The Pete Pidgeon (Solo and with Arcoda) Facebook Page. 07/17/09 - Brooklyn Brooklyn Brooklyn! So much to tell, so little space. Pete is now happily based in Brooklyn, NY and has been busier than in the last 5 years combined! Under his moniker Now Power Productions, Pete has recently co-produced, played guitar and sung background vocals on Vonrenzo's acclaimed Indica Dove Sei alongside Modest Mouse/ The Killers engineer Kyle "Slick" Johnson; produced and played guitar on Michelle Cruz's newest single "Not Saying Never"; produced and played drumset on two tracks for Jon Hildenstein's forthcoming debut album; twice played percussion behind folk phenom Daniel Cohen at New York City's historic Bitter End; wrote music for recording artist AJ Will; engineered demos for Connecticut's Erica Hulme and Michigan's Liz Dieleman; and recorded two original tracks co-written with The Professor of Funk Ben Hillman. See more at NowPowerProductions.com 06/25/09 - Hampton 98: The New Book By Pete Pidgeon With the band Phish's announcement that they would be reuniting at Virginia's Hampton Coliseum in March 2009, Pete felt the time was right to release the memoir of his experience at an historic set of concerts by the band there back in November of 1998. Originally written as a 74-page, single-spaced letter to a friend, Pete has transformed the essay into a 200-page non-fiction book. Reading more like Kerouac's On the Road than the stat-filled The Phishing Manual, the book is an easy crossover to anyone who loves to travel, have adventures and expect the unexpected. To pre-order, read samples and more, please visit Hampton98.com and "become a fan" on The Hampton 98 Facebook Page! 11/04/08 - 2 Sets At Tea Lounge in Brooklyn 11/23! It was just announced early this morning that Pete is confirmed to play a solo concert at Tea Lounge in Brooklyn (Park Slope) on Sunday, November 23rd at 9pm! The show is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, ALL AGES, and there is NO COVER AT THE DOOR, although a contribution is appreciated and goes 100% to Pete. This large venue has a great bakery and sandwich selection as well as a full bar. Please eat and drink to your fancy as a percentage of sales at the bar will also go to Pete who is not being compensated outright for this performance. Since drawing a crowd is more important in NYC than anywhere else in the country, PLEASE come out and support Pete's first full night here in The Big Apple so he can make a good first impression and be welcomed back for additional performances. For more information, please visit the Schedule page. Thank you! 09/28/08 - Fall Dates Announced Two additional dates have been announced for the fall. It should be hitting shelves any day now. Most Guitar Centers and music shops carry it by their front door. Amidst an entirely praising article, Julie writes, "Conceptually, like a jazz-influenced Sgt. Pepper’s or a less moody Pet Sounds, [Doubt Is For Losers] is an example of genre-defining pop excellence." You can read the article in its entirety by clicking on the "press" link in the left margin of this page and then scrolling down past the "notable quotables" section. Thanks to Brian King and Julie Min for making the article happen! 04/23/08 - Pidgeon To Perform At NYC 2008 Jeff Buckley Tribute Pete Pidgeon will be one of the performers at this year's Jeff Buckley Tribute Concert at Arlene's Grocery in New York City's Lower East Side. Pete will be performing one song solo along with several other well-known acts. This is indeed an honor. For more information, please visit the MySpace page dedicated to the show at www.myspace.com/jbtnyc. The event is scheduled for November 17, 2008 at 7pm. 04/03/08 - Arcoda's 10th Birthday!!!!! Officially on March 12, 2008, Arcoda turned 10 years old!!!!!! It's been a long-ass road from the first gig at Rhinecliff Hotel in Rhinecliff, NY, through the peaks (the recording session with Levon Helm, sold out Bill's Bar run) and valleys (departure of Adam Beamer, passing of Ivo Shanks). It's funny, sitting in a chair in my office, alone, writing this entry the same way I have for the past 10 years. Every ripple has a way of returning to a smooth mirror of water no matter how deep or how vibrant. As of today, Arcoda is better poised than ever in its history to make serious advancements. The new release Doubt Is For Losers is wildly successful, there is a 10th Anniversary event in the works for later this year, festivals are being booked and plans for another release ('09 or '10) are on the table. We're finally able to rally some industry troops behind the acclaim of new album which means the ball is beginning to roll downhill. Keep an eye on this site as the year progresses. We have some awesome shit on the way! We love you. 03/06/08 - Arcoda Ranked #82 out of 21,500 Rock Bands By ReverbNation.com On the strength of the single "Something So Far," off the new Pete Pidgeon and Arcoda album Doubt Is For Losers, the band was ranked today at #82 out of 21,500 bands in the rock category on ReverbNation.com. Pete was a member of Sam Kininger Band in February of 2005 when Sam decided to try creating a song comprised of an idea from each of the group's members - Sam Kininger (alto sax), Nicki Glaspie (drums), Amy Bowles (keys), Aaron Bellamy (bass) and Pidgeon (guitar). Pete's contribution is the section that immediately follows Sam's sax solo and appears elsewhere in the tune. The album is being released today in Japan on the Sony label BMG-Japan and will be available in the U.S. later this year. We wish the best of success to Sam, the band and the new disc which is SUPER HOT! 03/01/08 - Doubt Is For Losers Reviewed in UK and Relix Magazine The British, online magazine Leicester Bangs (www.LeicesterBangs.com) and the American, 100,000-circulation Relix Magazine have both reviewed the latest Pete Pidgeon and Arcoda release Doubt Is For Losers. In brief, Leicester Bangs's Rob Forbes stated, "The songs [on Doubt Is For Losers] are elevated and proper, the arrangements ambitious, the vocal harmonies sweet and the American vibe comfortable. It oozes confidence and class - great artwork, too." On a similarly praising note, Relix's Jaime Lee expressed, "[Pidgeon's] hyper-creativity enhances the rock and pop textures in Arcoda's compositions - the jazzy bump of Dream With Me and the acoustically quirky Treading Water. Pidgeon's songwriting prowess is acute." The February/ March issue of Relix, in which the review appears, is currently on newsstands across the country and has The Black Crowes on the cover. For more press on the new disc, please visit the press page. 12/17/07 - Boston Metro Reviews Doubt Is For Losers Boston's most circulated daily newspaper, read by more than 235,000 readers each day, reviewed Arcoda's newest album Doubt Is For Losers in today's November 17, 2007 issue. Written by Linda Laban, the article, in short, reads, "The songs on Pete Pidgeon and Arcoda's Doubt is For Losers are as sparklingly positive as its title suggests. Conviction, if not downright fervor, carries him far. That and a solid band, which includes Dap Kings/ John Scofield drummer Eric Kalb." 12/13/07 - Doubt Is For Losers On Nationally Syndicated Radio Show The song Clearly off the new Arcoda album Doubt Is For Losers will be featured on this weekend's edition of the nationally syndicated radio show Off the Beat-n-Track hosted by longtime Arcoda supporter Todd Mack. Rock! 08/06/07 - New Album, Cheetara and Blue Man Updates There have been setbacks, there have been advances... It's the best of times, it's the worst of times... The most stressful segment of the album process is upon us - the DEADLINE! We want this album to some out asap but it's got to be the best it can be before it goes out the door. Please hang on for a few more weeks and send some prayers that we can have this thing available on September 1st. Believe us, it will be way worth the wait. We're putting some release shows together for November in the Northeast. In the meantime, Pete will be playing with Cheetara at Lily Pad in Cambridge, MA on August 20th. The amazing musicians of The Fringe (George Garzone, John Lockwood, Bob Gullotti) will be following Cheetara on the bill. Please see the Schedule Page for all the details. Due to an inability to meet the time requirements of Blue Man Group, Pete is no longer a Blue Man. With the giant amount of work at the tail end of the recording process for the new Arcoda album, Pete was unable to provide a suitable number of hours to Blue Man Group. Pete enjoyed the experience and can now add electric zither to his arsenal of instruments played. 04/01/07 - Pidgeon Now A Blue Man After a March 22, 2007 audition, the Boston branch of The Blue Man Group chose Pete Pidgeon to fill the second string electric zither position on March 29, 2007. Beating out about seven other musicians, Pete will step into the vacancy created by lead zither player and Cheetara orchestrator Dave Traver who has been relocated to the Blue Man show in Orlando, Florida starting in May. Pete will train in April and play about two shows per week beginning in May. Other musicians in the fold include drummers Hari Hassin and Mike Petrucci both of whom Pete played with as a member of Mersilene in the summer of 2006 and Victor McSurely who is a fellow guitarist in Cheetara. Many thanks and best wishes to Dave for getting Pete in the door and on his next assignment. 03/28/07 - Paul Wolstencroft Adds Keys To "Doubt Is For Losers" Paul Wolstencroft, who stepped on the scene as the keyboardist for Jiggle the Handle (later Jiggle), and currently spends time in Ron Levy's Wild Kingdom and his newest creation B3 Kings, laid down some tracks on the Pidgeon original "Something So Far" for the upcoming Arcoda album "Doubt Is For Losers" today, March 28, 2007. Tracks included organ and strumming the inside of an upright piano. Paul will be lending his talents to many more of the record's tunes as the weeks progress. We'll keep you posted. Thanks to Paul for his time and efforts. 03/12/07 - Arcoda Celebrates 9th Year! With a bar brawl, an arrest, and a death threat in the bag, Arcoda looks back at nine year of rock. We would make some teary-ass montage and Flash photo slide show but we're too busy working on the new album "Doubt Is For Losers" which is due out mid-summer. Arcoda mainstays drummer Randy Wooten and bassist Seth Rivers, trombonist Brian Thomas of John Brown's Body, trumpeter (is that right?) Mark Erickson known for his work in Sugarcoat and The Royal Family, Greg Luttrell of Missing Persons and Michigan Blacksnake, and Paul Wolstencroft who played organ on Arcoda's debut "...At First Sight" have just been added to the album's roster. Still more to come. Oh yeah, and it's our ninth birthday... Mail us a freakin cake. 02/19/07 - Seth Rivers Chosen From 150 Berklee Bassists Arcoda bassist Seth Rivers has been chosen by the Berklee College of Music Bass Department as one of four bassists from a pool of 150 applicants to perform for the Berklee Staff. This prestigious and free event, to be held at the David Friend Recital Hall in the Uchida Building at 921 Boylston St. in Boston at 7:30pm on Monday, February 26, 2007, will include Arcoda guitarist Pete Pidgeon and Logan drummer Jamie Silberberg. The trio will be performing Joe Henderson's "Inner Urge" and the Pidgeon original "Spatula." This event is open to the public. 02/19/07 - Cheetara's Dave Traver To Direct Blue Man Orlando Dave Traver, the leader of the Blue Man Group band collaborative Cheetara, which includes Pete Pidgeon on guitar (and sometimes drumset), will be moving to Orlando in April to be the new Director of Blue Man Group Orlando. This is a huge move for Dave and we are very proud of and psyched for him. News on the future of Cheetara will be be forthcoming. 02/14/07 - Michael Wittahus's Glowing Review of Arcoda Live In NH Michael Witthaus, music journalist for the Claremont Eagle Times has written a review praising Arcoda's February 10, 2007 performance at the Heritage Tavern in Charlestown, NH. You can read the article on Michael's blog here: http://localrhythms.wordpress.com/ or on the press page. Michael also wrote an edited verion of his review for his A and E column in the Claremont Eagle Times. You can read this article HERE or on the press page. If you click on the "HERE" link, move your cursor to the bottom right-hand corner of the article and click on the box that appears. This will enlarge the article for easier viewing. Thanks to Michael for his kindness, attending the show and taking some photos. 02/11/07 - Chris Snykus of Perfect Thyroid To Join Arcoda in NY Joining Arcoda for two select dates, Chris Snykus of Perfect Thyroid/ Jupiter Sunrise will be filling the band's drum chair. Chris will play with Arcoda at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in Manhatten on Friday, February 23, 2007 as part of the New York Times Travel Expo and again on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at Oasis Cafe in New Paltz, NY. The NYC show is a priavte engagement so make it out the the Oasis for a full-on, three-set barrage! 02/11/07 - Moon Boot Lover's Eric Imbrosciano With Arcoda in NH Six-month-veteran, Moon Boot Lover drummer Eric Imbrosciano was the drummer for Arcoda last night, Saturday, February 10, 2007, at Heritage Tavern in Charlestown, NH. Eric and Pete Pidgeon met just four days earlier when Pete sat in with Moon Boot at The Paradise in Boston (see news story below). Matty "Apples" Algers, who was Arcoda's drummer since 2005, recently moved to Brooklyn to pursue other projects and the band is currently auditioning new drummers. 02/08/07 - Pete Pidgeon Guests With Moon Boot Lover Pete Pidgeon sat in with Peter Prince and Moon Boot Lover for their classic "Ali" on Tuesday, February 6, 2007. The song fell just into the band's second set which ended Peter's four-week residency at The Paradise in Boston, MA. The band featured Ben Carle on bass, former guitar for the now-defunct Jerkwater Ruckus, and Eric Imbrosciano on drums in addition to the always charismatic Peter Prince on guitar and vocals. Pete's new solo disc "Peter Prince" is a must have. Pick up a copy today at www.peterprincemusic.com. Much love to Peter and the band and thanks to Lori Frankian for taknig some photos! 01/15/07 - Third Session With Kalb/ Edgar Wraps Up The third tracking session with drummer Eric Kalb and bassist Nate Edgar wrapped up on Wednesday, January 10th. This date saw the recording of the brand new, never-performed "The Crusher" and the once, acoustically performed "Treading Water." "The Crusher" rocks very hard while the subtle "Treading Water" is a poppy piece of songwriting with complex harmony. Both songs are part of the upcoming Arcoda album "Doubt Is For Losers" which is due for a July 2007 release. The final three tunes on the album are scheduled to be laid down March 7th with a string section! Stay tuned... 11/19/06 - Pete Pidgeon Guests With Logan Pete Pidgeon sat in with Logan for the second time this month last night at Harper's Ferry in Boston, MA. Bassist Seth Rivers joined Logan last year while Arcoda was on hold. On November 30, 2006, Pete sat in with Logan for the first time at Bulfinch Yacht Club in Boston, MA for almost the entire set. Last night's show featured Pete on the final two songs of the show. Pete also ran the light board for both of Johnny's sets. Brian Silverstein took two, quick shots of the performance before Pete's camera's batteries died. Check them out on the photos page. Many thanks to Logan for the love and congratulations to Johnny on getting the album out! 11/06/06 - Update on Wikipedia Entry The previously mentioned Arcoda entry on Wikipedia.org has been removed. We don't know why, but just to show that you can't keep a good band down, we have posted our own entry at www.WikedCrapia.org. It is still the most extensive, written history of Arcoda available on the internet. So there... 10/22/06 - Arcoda Listed On Wikipedia Arcoda is now a searchable listing on Wikipedia.org. The entry is currently the most extensive, written history of Arcoda available on the internet. Take a look: Wikipedia.org. 10/20/06 - Photos of Bobby Blues Fest 2006 1/2 Up In an attempt to update the photos page, we have decided to start with what was missing most - Bobby Blues Fest. Following an appearance by Pidgeon/ Beamer and Whiter Side of Trash in 2002 and the duo of Pete Pidgeon and Seth Rivers in 2005, Fowl River Junction featuring Pete Pidgeon, Seth Rivers and Dwayne "Troy" Douglas rocked out in full form for this year's Bobby Blues Fest 2006 1/2. Held on Bobby's private land in Upstate (and we mean Upstate), Grahamsville, NY, Bobby elects to have 14 consecutive days of celebration (and you thought Bonnaroo was hard core...) revolving around The 4th of July and bottles of Delacour. Highlighted by a bonfire and more fireworks than at your measely city's town park, Bobby doesn't mess around, hosting bands and musicians from across America. It may be by invite only (Checkpoint Charlie means business...) but don't be afraid to ask us next summer if you can be our guest. For photos of the event, click on the "photos" link to the left there, or click here if you're too lazy. We hope to have more photos comin' your way soon. 10/05/06 - Second Recording Session with Eric Kalb and Nate Edgar Complete Six weeks following the commencement of the upcoming Arcoda LP "Doubt Is For Losers," drummer Eric Kalb (John Scofield/ Deep Banana Blackout) and bassist Nate Edgar (John Brown's Body) reconvened in Boston with Pete Pidgeon to lay down rhythm tracks for three more tunes - "Julie," "Clealry," and the Sam Cooke tinged "(I'm) Here With You." The next rhythm session is tentatively scheduled for early December with several overdub and editing sessions to take place in between. The album is tentatively set for a May/ June 2007 release. 08/30/06 - First Recording Session with Eric Kalb and Nate Edgar Complete The Arcoda engine is running and smoother than ever! On Wednesday, August 23rd, Eric Kalb, fresh off a European tour with The DAP Kings, and Nate Edgar, current bassist for John Brown's Body, joined Pete Pidgeon for the first of several recording sessions at Upright Basement Studio in Boston. The trio laid down rhythm tracks for "Something So Far," "You're My Girl" and "Dream With Me." The section stayed true to the songs' forms but added some personal edge, notably on the atmospheric/ hip-hop infused "Dream With Me." Arcoda photographer Jon Heinrich documented the occasion (pics will be up shortly). Three more songs are tentatively schedule for tracking in October. Exciting... 08/29/06 - First Arcoda Show In 9 Months This Weekend! After a long winter, spring and summer hiatus, Pete Pidgeon and Arcoda will be playing a rare 2006 concert at Madfish Grille in Gloucester, MA this Friday, September 1st. Backing Pidgeon will be two-year veteran rhythm guitarist Kurt Schellenberg, 2002 Arcoda alumni Tom Arey and Nate Edgar on bass. This two-set event will likely be the last show before New Years Eve (That's right! Plans are in the works...). Madfish Grille is located at 77 Rocky Neck Ave. and their phone number is (978) 281-4554. The show starts at 8:30pm with doors at 8:00pm. The venue only holds 100 people and with Labor Day Weekend, this will likely sell out so get there for the first set! 08/27/06 - Pete Pidgeon With Benways for Annual, Maine Campout Festival This past weekend the occasion was the annual Benway's Campout in Brownfield, ME. Day 1, August 25, 2006, was the acoustic part of the event with Pete Pidgeon, Chad Fay and Kevin Hay offering up unplugged performances by the campfire. Day 2 saw the Benways is full, electric form powered by a generator and trucked-in lighting. The two-set event came to a close with a duo performance by two of the campground's staff. The Flaming Lips are one of Pete's favorite bands since seeing them for the first time at Berkfest in 2003. Their albums "The Soft Bulletin" and "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" are two of the greatest albums of all time in grandeur, inspiration and power. Yeah, they're pretty good... 05/08/06 - Pidgeon In the Studio There may be a lack of updates on this page but that doesn't mean things haven't been busy for Pete Pidgeon. Pete jumped in on the third song of set two by initiating a tune written on the spot. Pete then stayed for a second Akashic original. Unfortunately, following that tune, Tom broke the cast on his left hand which had allowed him to play thourgh the night, thus ending the show prematurely. Rich Labedz, who recorded the baritone sax tracks for the Arcoda debut "...At First Sight" also made an appearance, sharing the stage with Pete for the first time since the 2002/2003 album sessions. Now in it's 35th year (he pre-dates Woodstock by 1 month), the annual "1/2 Fest" features bands performing on a handmade wooden stage, an extravagant professional fireworks display, food, camping, and one of the best views in Upstate New York. Revisiting the fest for the first time since Whiter Side of Trash performed in 2002 (see New Archive for 07/07/02), Pete Pidgeon brought former Arcoda bassist Seth Rivers. What was expected to be a duo acoustic performance of mainly Union Suit material turned into a full band rocking out to Arcoda classics such as Come To Me, Pretty Women Don't Follow Me, Say Baby, But It Don't Worry Me, Old Saying, Dream With Me, Little Red Rooster (Burnett/ Dixon), and more. Greg Brenner and Jimmy did a great job of sitting in on drumsets (yes, 2 drumsets!). Thanks so much to Bobby, Jibe-A-Gaun, Mike Callahan Band, The Killer Blues Band, Art (for the kangaroo baloon), and everyone we met and partied with. See you there! 01/30/05 - Fear Not Sessions Features Beamer, Wooten The first installment of the weekly Fear Not Sessions featured the instrumental trio of Randy Wooten (drums), Pete Pidgeon (guitar) and intrestingly enough Adam Beamer on bass. Both bands then partied 'til dawn at Pete and Sam's place in Allston, MA. Rage! 12/09/04 - Dimebag Darrell Killed On Stage A very tough week for the music scene indeed. Just days after the passing of Addison Groove Project bassist John Hall, "Dimebag" "Diamond" Darrell Abbot, guitarist for Pantera and most recently Damage Plan, was shot and killed during an Ohio performance. Pete Pidgeon listened to Pantera steadily in high school and recently picked up a bunch of their old tunes. Dimebag was Arcoda's "Quote of the Month" in February. Click here to read it. Dimebag's influence even showed in bands such as Soulive - keyboardist Neal Evans uses the Dimebag model whah pedal. Dimebag's guitar playing had originality and talent. His sound was the counerstone of modern pop metal with its low, detuned grit. There was never another band that Pete has heard that can get the anger out so well and replace it with something positive. Go pick up "Vulgar Display of Power" and "Far Beyond Driven" and bang your head. 11/27/04 - Addison Groove Project Bassist John Hall Passes Addison Groove Project bassist John Hall passed away this week as the result of a long battle with cancer. Pete Pidgeon and John had played together on several occasions over the years. Pete Pidgeon and Arcoda would like to send condolences to John's family and all the people John made smile in his time with us. Pete will remember John for his great sense of humor as well as his terrific bass playing. Tell your friends you love them. Donations may be made in John's memory to The Mockingbird Foundation, c/o The Godards, 6948 Luther Circle, Moorpark, CA 93021 or to Healthcare Dimensions Hospice, 40 Woerd Ave., Suite 102, Waltham, MA 02453, Attn: Jennifer Harding. 11/24/04 - Pidgeon Performs With Percy Hill and Rustic Overtones Members Pete Pidgeon completed a three-day run as the guitarist for Sam Kininger Band last weekend landing shows at The Stone Church 11/18 (Newmarket, NH), The Trazza Cafe 11/19 (Providence, RI) and Free Street Taverna 11/20 (Portland, ME). Nate Wilson, keyboardist for Percy Hill, joined the band for "Pieces" in his home state of New Hampshire. In Providence, Nate of Fungus Amungus sat in on percussion for the entire show. And in Portland, ME, bassist Keith Mann of SeepeopleS, a local tenor saxophonist, and baritone saxophonist Jason Ward of Rustic Overtones all made guest appearances. 11/14/04 - Pidgeon Guitarist For Sam Kininger, Plays With Soulive Members On Wednesday, November 10, 2004, Pete Pidgeon got a last minute call to be the guitarist for the Sam Kininger Band. Hector Beccerra (drums) and Shane Furry (bass) rounded out the lineup. The show featured several tunes that hadn't been played in 4 plus years including "Ausfunk," and "Feelin' Alright." The retro-lineup will get together again with Gian Starr for a Halloween show at New Paltz's Snug Harbor on Saturday, October 30th. See the schedule page for more info. 10/05/04 - "Booty Boots" Monologue Page The Booty Boots Monologue Page has been added to the website by popular demand. In the Arcoda classic, Pete often makes up spontaneous and frequently provocative stories in the middle verse of the song. Three such discourses are up on the page with more to come once the archives are sifted through. Enjoy, you sick bastards. 10/04/04 - Arcoda v3.0 Pete Pidgeon and Arcoda are busy working on completing a brand new lineup for the fall. If you have not heard, long-time collaborator Adam Beamer is no longer with the band as he directs his focus on his independent film career. Adam has been a staple over the last 3 years and we wish him the best. Recent addition Ben Hoadley has moved and will also no longer be a part of the band either. Ben made a great contribution to the upcoming Arcoda EP. Joining the band will be drummer Mike Stavitz who has already gotten one gig under his belt - this past weekend at Starlight Lounge in Waitsfield, VT opening for Melvin Sparks. On Friday night (6/11), both Pete and Arcoda bassist Ben Hoadley performed in Inner Orchestra at Starlight Lounge in Waitsfield, VT. The following morning the pair performed three consecutive Inner Orchestra gigs. The first was as a marching band which paraded down Church Street. Pete played marching bass drum and Ben played cowbell. Next was a performance on the main stage at the green across from the Flynn Theater. Finally, the band hosted its final show ever at Club Metronome that evening. Following the Metronome hit, Pete hustled up to Halvorson's where he sat in with Moon Boot Lover to help Peter Prince sing "The Gift." Next up was Sam Kininger Band's second set at Nectar's where Pete sat in on the trio's first tune along with George Thomas on bass. Later in the set, Sam called Pete back up for the final two songs of the night. Additional guests on those tunes were trombonist Josh Roseman (MMW, Sheryl Crow, Sean Lennon, The Roots...), saxophonist Dan dela Cruz (John Brown's Body), and once again George Thomas. Arcoda goes on early (9pm) so I don't want to hear any complaining about not being able to come out because it's a weeknight! Please visit the schedule page for all the info. Rock! 04/23/04 - Pete Pidgeon Performs Show With Lander Members Quite by accident, Pete Pidgeon performed an entire show with member of the Boston, breakbeat band Lander on Friday, April 23, 2004 at Big City in Allston, MA. Pete had come to see Lander's guitarist and drummer play in a trio with bassist Justin Keeth. The club had pushed their start time back almost two hours and they had not supplied them with multiple outlets. As a result, Justin took off. Pete arrived and grabbed his guitar and a power strip from his apartment. Lander's bassist was in the house so the four of them played close to a two-hour set of jazz covers and improvisational breakbeats. The bar had crayons and brown, paper placemats at the tables on which the patrons drew pictures to the music. 04/21/04 - Songs Page Upgrade The "songs" page has been upgraded so that you can now search by artist as well as by song. Pete jammed with the band on the Orange original "Leaves" as well as the band's arrangement of "My Favorite Things" > "Eyes Of The World." Thanks to Zyrah's and the guys who threw the post-show party (Mmmm, warm Rolling Rock...). 03/15/03 - Pete Pidgeon Jams With Fuzz, Sam Kininger, Others Skip Jennings, vocalist of the now defunct Soulwork, threw a private party last night in Somerville, MA which featured a barrage of musical contributors. Playing throughout the evening in an all out collaborative session, were Skip, Pete Pidgeon, Fuzz (guitarist for Deep Banana Blackout, saxophonist Sam Kininger of Soulive, Hazie Maze cast and alumni Max Gallico (guitar), Amee Jana (vocals), Chris Marson (trombone), and Ty Osborne (drums), Amy Bowles of Mad Dog Trio on Rhodes and Clavinet, vocalist Nephtaliem McCrary of The Royal Family, bassist Ian Hamel, vocalist Ryan from San Francisco, and Jeff on guitar. After four months of procrastinating (and we still haven't solved the problem, just avoided it) we have taken drastic measures to get this page back alive and kickin'. So hey, how's it going? We just got off a three day run through New Jersey and New York. Read about it below! 03/09/03 - McArcoda With Bacon Arcoda received a last-minute invitation to perform with Unexplained Bacon at The Underpass in Elmwood Park, NJ on Saturday, March 8. The band happily obliged and opted to take the first half of the double-bill on account of Randy having to be at work in Boston only eight hours after the band got off stage. Highlights included a solo performance of the rarity "In the Name of Megan Smith" by Pete and "When the Devils Come To Take My Angels Away." Thanks to Bacon for the gig, Lisa for dancing, and to The Underpass for the free beer. 03/08/03 - Arcoda Celebrates Five Year Anniversary At Snugs After a notorious prior visit, Arcoda returned to the band's hometown of New Paltz, NY for another sold-out performance at Snug Harbor on Friday, March 7. Former Arcoda/ Perfect Thyroid bassist's new band Avalon Grey opened up with an amazing set. Whiter Side Of Trash had to cancel last minute so Arcoda had the majority of the night to themselves - a three-hour marathon show with a five minute set break. Highlights included Booty Boots > Hip To Be Square jam (Huey Lewis and the News) > Booty Boots featuring the members of Unexplained Bacon singing backup and former Arcoda members Gian Starr and Shane Furey both singing/ freestyling sections of Booty Boots. The show closer - Bitches On Parole - also included Shane and Gian on backup vocals to help celebrate Arcoda's five year anniversary. The band's first show was March 12, 1998 at The Rhinecliff Hotel in Rhinecliff, NY. Arcoda received a resounding encore call and delivered with The Way. Pete told the crowd that they would only play an encore on the condition that everyone sign the mailing list and smack each of the band members on the ass once they got off the stage. There was minimal butt-smacking but a girl named Emily did dance on the stage for the whole song and kiss Pete when it ended. Rock and roll. 03/07/03 - Arcoda Christens New Jersey Arcoda made their debut New Jersey performance last night at Trenton's Joe's Mill Hill Saloon. After a ten hour commute from Boston, due to a heavy snowstorm, the band rolled out to see local trio Kadema open up. Arcoda broke out the classic original "J.C. (G.C.)" for the first time since July 29, 2000 - Arcoda's last show as a New Paltz band (pre-Boston) at the Hemp Splash/ WHEE Festival in Afton, NY. Thanks to Kadema for the help carrying our gear and to Mike for giving us a warm welcome. 01/23/03 - Randy Wooten Chosen As New Arcoda Drummer After many auditions and months of utilizing every drummer in Boston's talents, Arcoda has finally chosen a full-time member in Randy Wooten. Randy gained recognition in the Northeast with the late-90's funk band The Daddy's and later with The Rockett Band. Randy is a New England Conservatory of Music graduate and has studied with Bob Moses and Danillo Perez among others. We are looking forward to his skills taking the band to the next level. Plus, he is a black belt so no more trying to kick the lead singer's ass. 10/30/02 - Levon Helm Records With Arcoda After seventeen months of planning, Pete Pidgeon and Arcoda recorded a full day's session of music with drummer Levon Helm, Tuesday, October 29, 2002. The session included three Pidgeon originals - "When the Devils Take My Angels Away," "Pretty Women Don't Follow Me," and "But It Don't Worry Me," as well as an arrangement of the Bob Dylan tune "Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You." Arcoda members Jeremy Gustin on percussion, Adam Beamer on piano, and Seth Rivers on upright and electric basses filled out the lineup. This was the second in a series of sessions with producer Craig Welsch in preparation for Arcoda's debut studio release due out in early 2003. Levon Helm was the drummer for The Band, was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, and is currently touring with his band The Barn Burners. 10/22/02 - Last-Minute Local Boston Show This Thursday Pete Pidgeon and Arcoda have been asked to be the main performer for the ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) Association Massachusetts Chapter Benefit for research this Thursday in Faneuil Hall. Arcoda is diligently working on recording their upcoming debut studio cd. More sessions, with Boston producer Craig Welsch (John Brown's Body, Addison Groove Project, Rockett Band, Soulive, The Slip) are to follow through the month of November. No word on a release date yet but we will keep you posted. 10/15/02 - Midwest Shows Cancelled With "unfortunateness" we must inform you that our plans to visit two parts of Ohio and one one part of Indiana in November have been cancelled beyond our control. The date that was to finance our trip has pulled out due to budget restrictions and unless someone who really digs us out there wants to put up some flow, we have to waive the run. We do have plans of returning in the spring - probably in April, so please keep an ear out around that time. Thank you for your patience and we'll be rockin' the midwest in no time. 09/23/02 - Booty Boots Reaches Wrong Crowd Member Pete Pidgeon and Arcoda played to a packed house Friday, September 20, 2002 at Snug Harbor in New Paltz, NY. The show was nearly three hours long with no set break and was opened by longtime, hometown favorites Whiter Side Of Trash. Whiter Side, lead by former Arcoda frontman Gian Starr, also consisted of Dave Ellison on mandolin, James on pedal steel, Hector Beccera on drumset, and Shane Furey on bass. Pete sat in for the band's last tune - David Allen Coe's "Rodeo Song" - on his hollowbody guitar. Arcoda's long set included a four-song mini set of Pidgeon/ Beamer late in the night. After a rousing and crowd-participatory rendition of Nelly's hip pop hit "Hot In Herre" with MC PTP (Pidgeon), the band tore into a meaty "Booty Boots" featuring a guest appearance by Gian Starr. Gian sang the first verse (an improv about pancakes) and was handed Pete's guitar for the second verse. Pete took the mic to the crowd and made the wrong first impression on a sour, young man's girlfriend. After pouring a full beer on Pete's head, he proceeded to punch him in the side and throw him to the stage (many props to the fans who held him back, members of the band Unexplained Bacon perhaps...?). Before the bouncers could throw him out, the kid threw the PA speaker to the ground. Pete then got up and counted the band back in for the third verse and chorus to the crowd's delighted appreciation. The bouncers soon called off the music despite Pete's last attempt at a solo rendition of Harry Connick Jr.'s "Heavenly" which only comes out on nights such as this. Happy birthday to bar local Dave and thanks for the leftovers. Many thanks to the crew at Snugs (Ray, Kelly, and Freddy) for showing us a good time and for asking us to come back whenever we want. Rock and roll. 09/19/02 - Arcoda Kicks Off The Slip Fall Tour, Richard Carr Sits In Tuesday night, September 17, 2002, Pete Pidgeon and Arcoda opened up for The Slip on the first day of their lengthy fall tour of the United States. The duo played a set written by fans Mike Schavone and Chris Zimbelman which included a new acapella techo/ dance original called "Hump You In the Ass." The song sheds light on the bizarre mating ritual that takes place on most club floors. Adam played bill comrade Hi8tus's Fender Rhodes on "Tiny Dancer" and "Left-Wing Politics In A Vacuum." Go to the other setlists page for the whole setlist. The night ended early for Pidgeon/ Beamer when the male bartender told Beamer he couldn't drink anymore free beer because he was done playing. For any bar considering this tactic, please beware that cutting off Pidgeon/ Beamer is a very bad idea. 07/18/02 - Pete Pidgeon Debuts New Tunes At Rock Slide Pete Pidgeon was the "Featured Performer" at last night's Rock Slide Open Mic. Lojas played upright on Spinal Tap's "Flower People" and doubled Jon on "Thank You" and Bob Dylan's "Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You." Many thanks to Andrew and Jon for their commitments to this performance. 02/28/02 - Lojas Incze Announced As New Arcoda Bassist, Drummer Still Sought Pete Pidgeon and Arcoda announced today the addition of Lojas Incze as the band's permanent bassist. Lojas (pronounced Loi-ish) recently moved to Boston from Maine and plays a fair amount of upright as well as electric. His eclectic style and technical proficiency prove to be strong assets to Arcoda's growing sound. Arcoda is still seaking a full-time drummer to fill the shoes of Andrew Barr (The Slip), Tom Arey (Uncle Sammy) and Andrew Keith (Addison Groove Project) who have acted as Arcoda's drummers over the past 14 months. We are looking for someone who can bring a jazz background into 02/27/02 - Pidgeon/ Beamer Win Open Mic Pidgeon/ Beamer gave a powerful performance at After Hours in Boston, MA last night on the campus of Northeastern University. After wrapping up their set at the club's Open Mic, the MC announced, "If this was a competition, you guys would be the winners...well...as a matter of fact...I've decided to award you with a pair of Red Sox tickets." This is the first time Pidgeon/ Beamer, or perhaps anyone, has ever won an exhibition. The set was cut short by a Roxbury police officer who had received a noise complaint. The night began with two sets from Jester's Dead. Go to the "other setlists" page on the "setlists" page to see what they played. 02/14/02 - Pete Pidgeon and Arcoda At UMASS On February 8, Pete Pidgeon and Arcoda rocked out Butterfield Hall at UMASS - Amherst. Emiliano Garcia of Inner Orchestra tore it up with Arcoda for the entire set on tenor saxophone including a sweaty, stretched-out version of the Arcoda classic Booty Boots. Pete Pidgeon gave the crowd a rare performance of Eddie Van Halen's live guitar solo (perhaps only the second ever) which concluded by Pete playing the "tapping" section with the guitar behind his head. Friends Uncle Sammy followed Arcoda and kept the crowd ragin' until 1:00am. 02/19/02 - Pidgeon/ Beamer Make V-Day Appearance Pete Pidgeon and Adam Beamer of Arcoda played an acoustic show under the name Pidgeon/ Beamer at Great Scott in Allston, MA on February 14. The show also featured such favorites as "The Way," "Say Baby," "Ooh Child," "Nuts Is Friend Of Mine," "Bitches On Parole," "Rock With You" (MJ), "Loving Cup" (Stones) and a new cover of Bob Dylan's "Tonight I'm Going To Be Staying Here With You." The night's music was almost completely improvised except for an Uncle Sammy original and a tease at Stevie Wonder's Superstition. Helix standards "Pure Evil" and "The Tony" also poked their heads into the setlist. Despite Pete's hollowbody losing it's input jack in the middle of the first tune, he was able to finish the show using Patrick's Fender Strat. Many thank to Patrick for saving the day. The main focus of K.B. is to bring percussion to the foreground of music by performing both composed and improvisational percussion duets. These performances stress everything from the groove to being extremely experimental. Andrew and Pete may be playing on two drum kits one song, saws, pots, and pans on the next. Some performances will also include cameos by various local players." The bar never informed the band and thus many, many people were shut out. Rather than support a bar who told more than half of our crowd to go home, we decided to go home too. We will make up for this show as soon as we can find an alternate venue. 12/99 - Pete and Shane Play Post-Rhinecliff Party Following the Rhinecliff fiasco, Pete and Shane met up with mandolin player Dave Ellison, percussionist Andrew McCauley (of Whiskey Dick), and Sara Medenbach on vocals at a house party on South Oakwood in New Paltz, NY.
